Norfolk VA Property Management: How to Keep the House Safe while on Vacation

KRS Holdings - Monday, February 29, 2016
In Norfolk VA property management, a vacant home may sometimes differ from an unoccupied home. A vacant property means that the home is still up for rent, while an unoccupied property may mean that the tenants are on vacation. Property managers should request their tenants to inform them if they will be out of the house for an extended period; such as three days or more. This is because an unoccupied home attracts more burglars than a vacant home, due to the valuable things which can be found inside.   Tenants should inform their property managers when they're out for a vacation. This way, someone would keep an eye over the property while its occupants are away. The lights on the porch would be turned on at night, and the mailbox would be prevented from getting full. These trivial matters, when neglected, give instant cues for burglars to sense that no one is at home. It would also be safer to entrust the spare key to the property manager instead of hiding it under a store-bought rock, or under a potted plant. Thieves already know these obvious hiding places, so tenants should be warned about this. Also, tenants should also make sure that all the appliances are unplug and the faucets are all turned off before leaving the house to prevent unnecessary damage.
